Setting realistic treatment goals

At EAN, Cristina Tassorelli, Professor of Neurology, University of Pavia, Italy, discussed how a synergy should be created between the patient and healthcare professional and an open, ongoing dialogue is needed. Once diagnosed, patients need to be informed that they are an active part of migraine control as they need to understand their own particular onset triggers. It is important, highlighted Professor Tassorelli, that patients are counselled that finding the right therapy for them may take time and there is a need for realistic expectations regarding drug therapy. Side effects also need discussion and to be monitored.
